two years ago, Alpha Blondy briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Banana”. Since completing 1989’s ‘The Prophet (Allah Leka Netch)’, Alpha Blondy fulfilled their contract with Virgin Records and where under no obligation to release another album. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Alpha Blondy energies, virtually a rebirth. This album is in perfect progression from Alpha Blondy!
In Banana Alpha Blondy is at his best. It’s such an underrated song. I can’t stop playing Kolombaria. This song has very few things relative to that of it’s predecessor. Black Man Tears is one of the most beautiful songs ever to grace my stereo. It’s so catchy, it’s amazing. After about the third Jah Music listen through, I began to believe this song is Alpha Blondy’s essence.
