Bolivia Manta’s debut, ‘Quechua Music’, does not fit easily into one genre. Lead single “ca Llacta” and “nda Mai” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. This is the first studio album from Bolivia Manta since bad diagnosis in 1990. IT makes me wanna dance!
Still going through Quechua Music and coming to appreciate nda Mai more and more with every listen. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Alzando el Pao, which shows, blatantly, how much Bolivia Manta has evolved as a singer. I find myself hearing bits of Medley: Coraza/Armay Chischi/Changa Marcana here and there throughout my waking hours. It’s such an underrated song. Gran Marcha is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Bolivia Manta released so far. Pusakapuway - This one makes me want to not only sing along. Llaki Shungulla is a great song for a cosy night in when it’s cold and wintry outside. I now have Medley: Q’eros/Flor de Ayrampu as one of my personal favorites. Camba Cusa (3:54) - awsome. Achimamita the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe. You can find feelings on this piece of art. Get Quechua Music and turn on Carabuela if you are going to sip your wine late at night. Medley: Misa Punlla/San Juan Capilla/Curiquingue is the most memorable and astounding. There is astounding mix of music in Wat’isanka. This track is a great song that still never gets old.
