Lead single “Give Me My Coat And Shoes” and “Big Boat (Buddy And Junior’s Thing)” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. On Alone and Acoustic album, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. I love this album so much, i’ve been crazy about Buddy Guy and Junior Wells ever.
Simply the finest work ever from this multi-talented singer. Sweet Black Girl - This one is what it is: a powerful, primal invitation to love. The song feels complete. Don’t Leave Me is one of these floating songs. Rollin’ And Tumblin’ is the song that really did it for me. Music and lyrics of I’m In The Mood creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. High Heel Sneakers is a great song to contemplate the modern music and what it really is all about. Wrong Doing Woman is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through Alone and Acoustic. It’s such an underrated song. The sound of Sally Mae is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. Opening track Catfish Blues shows the best of Buddy Guy and Junior Wells. My Home’s In The Delta is one of those songs that will put you in a good mood. Boogie Chillen is nothing but pure genius. Medley: Baby What You Want Me To Do / That’s All Right - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem.
