If you are a Count Basie fan, you will love Blues In The Dark. Within the first few notes of Sent For You Yesterday it’s perfectly clear that Count Basie is living this song. Every Tub still maintains something of a specific flourish. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. Swingin’ The Blues is perfect. Mama Don’t Want No Peas ‘N’ Rice ‘N’ Coconut Oil is one of the more up-tempo songs on Complete Decca Recordings - 1937 (CD 2). It took me a little time but I ended up loving Blue and Sentimental. Doggin’ Around is pretty funky and mellow. When I listen to Stop Beatin’ Round The Mulberry Bush-1st Take in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. Stop Beatin’ Round The Mulberry Bush-2nd Take is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. In London Bridge Is Falling Down the light shines equally on lyrics, vocals and instrumentation. You have to get essence of the Texas Shuffle’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. This song has very few things relative to that of it’s predecessor. How Long Blues is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. The Dirty Dozen - This one makes me want to not only sing along. Hey Lawdy Mama marked the continuation of Count Basie in style evolution. Music and lyrics of The Fives creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. Boogie Woogie is one of my favorite songs by Count Basie. Dark Rapture is a bit of a show-tune. Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. Count Basie emotions are reflected through The Blues I Like To Hear. A unique and uplifting song. I can’t stop playing Panassie Stomp.
