Dizzy Gillespie was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Dizzy Gillespie and Quintet - Jazz at Massey Hall: Toronto May 1953 together. Lead single “Night In Tunisia” and “Cherokee” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Since Dizzy Gillespie last CD (Quintet - Jazz at Massey Hall: Toronto May 1953) on Virgin Records back in 1992, I have felt a massive void in my life. I Love Quintet - Jazz at Massey Hall: Toronto May 1953 from start to finish!
Cherokee is an incredible song that has everything it needs to be another favorite track. Bass-ically Speaking is filled with very deep emotions that will truly touch your heart. All The Things You Are - This one is lively and fun. I think Wee is the best song Dizzy Gillespie has ever done. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. Salt Peanuts still maintains something of a specific flourish. Perdido is a very catchy tune. Lullaby Of Birdland - This one makes me want to not only sing along. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Jubilee, which shows, blatantly, how much Dizzy Gillespie has evolved as a singer. Music of Hot House is gentle, never overbearing. Embraceable You - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem.
