Now signed to Etta Baker’s Columbia Records, the title track from second album “One-Dime Blues” leads Etta Baker’s back-to-school campaign. There is so much to love about Etta Baker, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. After debuting at No. 1 last week, Etta Baker’s album One-Dime Blues falls to No. 2 with 102,000, a sales slide of 84%. IT makes me wanna dance!
One-dime Blues is the most memorable and exquisite. After about the third Knoxville Rag listen through, I began to believe this song is Etta Baker’s essence. Broken Hearted Blues is one of these floating songs. Best song on the album, love it. Dewdrop is another strong production from Etta Baker. A great put together song. Near The Cross I Watch and Pray is outstanding work of Etta Baker. Spanish Fandango has to be one of the most beautiful tracks on the entire album. Round My Back Door Selling Coal is a song to enjoy for years to come. This track is a fabulous selection of easy listening, suitable for any age, taste or occasion. I think Crow Jane is the best song Etta Baker has ever done. John Henry - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. Alabama Wagonwheel is an incredible song that has everything it needs to be another favorite track. One of the more genuine-sounding songs is Bully Of The Town. Music and lyrics of Going To The Racetrack creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. I love the melodic melody of Police Dog Blues and to this day it makes me feel good. Marching Jaybird is the albums biggest surprise. Some of the arrangements found on One-Dime Blues are surprisingly edgy. In Carolina Breakdown the music gets its power.
