This eleven-song debut EP shows the promise that Howlin’ Wolf has. On Live and Cookin’ album, Howlin’ Wolf have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. This album has some very good songs like When I Laid Down I Was Troubled and I Didn T Know. Overall, I would highly recommend Live and Cookin’ CD.
I Didn T Know is a striking and quite long song. This track, in particular, has the kind of undeniably catchy flavor. I think I Had A Dream is the best song Howlin’ Wolf has ever done. Call Me The Wolf is almost impossible to review. Don’t Laugh At Me is one of the coolest songs Howlin’ Wolf has ever recorded. This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in Live and Cookin’. Some of the arrangements found on Live and Cookin’ are surprisingly edgy. The Big House is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit. Vocals of Howlin’ Wolf in Mr. Airplane Man really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm.
