On The Year Punk Broke album, Indie - Various Artists have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Lead single “Thurston Moore - The Muddy Tracks (Intro)” and “Sonic Youth - Schizophrenia” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. While no new Indie - Various Artists album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1991 tour in Europe. The Year Punk Broke is not something you should pass up.
Sonic Youth - Schizophrenia is the albums biggest surprise. Thurston Moore - Go Forth And Thrash is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit. Nirvana - Negative Creep (Falsetto Intro) - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. I like Thurston Moore - Fuck ‘em All because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. I believe Sonic Youth - Brother James is one of the most cool, heartfelt songs ever written. This track is nearly perfect if not perfect. Such hits like Sonic Youth - Interviews will leave you hooked. Sonic Youth - Dirty Boots is nothing short of a modern masterpiece.
