On the Poland charts, superstar James Brown’s career stalled before it left the starting gate. Lead single “Blow Your Head - Fred Wesley & The JB’s” and “Super Good (Parts 1& 2) - Myra Barnes (Vicki Anderson)” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. James Brown was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from James Brown and James Brown’s Funky People, Pt. 2 together. James Brown’s Funky People, Pt. 2 touched my soul like nothing else.
Simply the finest work ever from this multi-talented singer. I find myself hearing bits of I’m Paying Taxes, What Am I Buying - Fred Wesley & The JB’s here and there throughout my waking hours. It’s a great pleasure to listen to Do Your Thing - Lyn Collins from the beginning to the end. Hot Pants…I’m Coming, Coming, I’m Coming - Bobby Bird is a bit different from James Brown stereotypical stuff. The Message From The Soul Sisters (Parts 1& 2) - Myra Barnes (Vicki Anderson) is a very good song maybe surprisingly better than you at first might’ve imagined. Listening to Cross The Track (We Better Go Back) - Maceo & The Macks you can hear that James Brown has still amazing chemistry with band members. Album opener You Can Have Watergate But Gimme Some Bucks And I’ll Be Straight (Parts 1&2) - Fred Wesley & The JB’s is a bright, upbeat ditty. This is one hell of a track. Excellent vocals and musical performances. Only one song from James Brown’s Funky People, Pt. 2 named What Do I Have To Do To Prove My Love To You - Marva Whitney really got me. This track is just fantastic from start to finish. I Know You Got Soul - Bobby Byrd is perfect.
