For older fans The Payback will put a massive smile accross your face. Since completing 1992’s ‘The Payback’, James Brown fulfilled their contract with Capitol Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Self-described as funk with lots of words, James Brown comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. The Payback and Doing The Best I Can is really good.
Doing The Best I Can make listening to James Brown like being in some sort of time warp. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. Shoot Your Shot - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. Forever Suffering catches attention immediately, Time Is Running Out Fast good vocals. Stone To The Bone is the album’s biggest hit, I think. Mind Power is another favourite of mine.
