Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Joan Baez on ‘EL PRESO NUMERO NUEVE’. twelve years ago, Joan Baez briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “HENRY MARTIN”. Since completing 1990’s ‘EL PRESO NUMERO NUEVE’, Joan Baez fulfilled their contract with Blue Note Records and where under no obligation to release another album. I wish that “Joan Baez” album was instrumental.
Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin. LITTLE MOSES pretty much defines how I feel spiritually. This track, in particular, has the kind of undeniably catchy flavor. Once JOHN RILEY gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. |titile| is quite refreshing and sets the tone for what is going on in Joan Baez. You can find feelings on this piece of art. DONNA DONNA - Joan Baez first major hit. HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN is a fine track on any terms. ALL MY TRIALS makes a person feel perfect. FARE THEE WELL (or Ten Thousand Miles) is a song to enjoy for years to come. SILVER DAGGER is a great opener for Joan Baez. After you’ve listened to EAST VIRGINIA, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate.
