Stanley Donwood has compared writing for Joe Pass’s new album to that on ‘All Too Soon: The Duke Ellington Album’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. All Too Soon: The Duke Ellington Album isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. six years ago, Joe Pass briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Caravan”. I greatly enjoyed this CD.
I came to like Caravan. Sophisticated Lady - A strong beat. All Too Soon is the song that really did it for me. I’m Beginning to See the Light great lyrics, dark, deep, angry and cool.I believe Mood Indigo is one of the most gorgeous, heartfelt songs ever written. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. Main Stem makes a person feel perfect. In a Sentimental Mood is nothing but pure genius. It’s such an underrated song. Rocks in My Bed is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done.
