It’s natural for John Lee Hooker to take a stab at ‘Boom Boom’ considering her long-professed love for Gridlok. IF YOU LIKE ALL John Lee Hooker’S SONG GO FOR IT! ‘The Ultimate Collection (CD 2)’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. Smart music for smart people.
This track is just a stunning masterpiece. John Lee Hooker sings You Know, I Know in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. I was truly moved when I heard One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer. Let’s Go Out Tonight is, without a doubt, my favorite song, ever. I Cover The Waterfront is a great opener for The Ultimate Collection (CD 2). This is probably my favorite song on the album. Music and lyrics of Back Biters and Syndicators creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. There is excellent mix of music in Think Twice Before You Go. Shake It Baby is gorgeous and different song. John Lee Hooker breathes new life into the music in I’m Bad Like Jesse James. Peavine is a catchy, up-tempo track that has influence of music streams without leaning too much in that direction. It took me a little time but I ended up loving Burning Hell. Terraplane Blues-with Roy Rogers is the most memorable and excellent. I’m In The Mood-with Bonnie Raitt and Roy Rogers gives taste of what makes John Lee Hooker special as a musician.
