Self-described as Jazz with lots of words, John Surman comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. There is no doubt that John Surman has talent. After seeing Duet For One, I had to have a good John Surman cd. Enjoy the show.
I was truly moved when I heard Seven. Twisted Roots has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets John Surman’s strong vocals come to the fore. This track is a fabulous selection of easy listening, suitable for any age, taste or occasion. John Surman allows each song to breathe and flourish. Just For Now is a great song for a cosy night in when it’s cold and wintry outside. Quadraphonic Question is probably one of John Surman’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. Figfoot is amazing and different song. Only Yesterday is a medium tempo tune.
