More News for Lulu isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. Lead single “Melody For C” and “Blues Blues Blues” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Self-described as Avantgarde with lots of words, John Zorn comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. I greatly enjoyed this CD.
Blues Blues Blues - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. This track is full of harmonies and gets More News for Lulu off to a relaxing start. Peckin’ Time make listening to John Zorn like being in some sort of time warp. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. It took me a little time but I ended up loving Ole. Lotus Blossom as well as many of songs is a short story in miniature. Funk In Deep Freeze great lyrics, dark, deep, angry and cool.Eastern Incident is a good listen every once in a while. John Zorn rocks harder than ever with Motion/Windmill. Minor Swing is John Zorn’s best work in years. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin. When listening to Gare Guillemins, it gives me such an energy rush it’s unbelievable. Hank’s Other Tune gets you up and jumping. John Zorn has astounded me with this amazing track.
