After seeing Buddy’s Habit, I had to have a good King Oliver cd. King Oliver was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from King Oliver and 1923-1926 together. This is one of the best Cd’s King Oliver has dropped to date. This album is a scorcher!
This track is a killer, it just grabs you instantly. Georgia Man gives good insight into the truths. Home Town Blues is another favourite of mine. I Ain’t Gonna Tell Nobody - King Oliver first major hit. Jackass Blues - King Oliver And His Dixie Syncopators is the excellent blend of moody yet optimistic tunes. King Porter - King Oliver - a classic song. The opening track Mabel’s Dream is very much like you would expect from other albums. Strong, powerful vocals of King Oliver in Mabel’s Dream are very impressive. King Oliver has astounded me with this amazing track. Music and lyrics of Riverside Blues creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. Room Rent Blues has to be one of the most beautiful tracks on the entire album. Snag It still maintains something of a specific flourish. I think Sorrow Valley Blues is the best song King Oliver has ever done. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. Sweet Baby Doll is simple, dignified and effective, King Oliver refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Tack Annie - King Oliver And His Dixie Syncopators can be hardly overrated by any means; this is what King Oliver is all about. When listening to Tears, it gives me such an energy rush it’s unbelievable. In The Southern Stomps you won’t find any flashy solos. Lyrics of Tom Cat - King Oliver are precise and evocative. Some of the arrangements found on 1923-1926 are surprisingly edgy. I was truly moved when I heard Wa Wa Wa - King Oliver And His Dixie Syncopators. Working Man Blues - arguably the best track on 1923-1926 album.
