Since Koko Taylor last CD (Live From Chicago : An Audience With The Queen) on Blue Note Records back in 1990, I have felt a massive void in my life. For older fans Live From Chicago : An Audience With The Queen will put a massive smile accross your face. On Live From Chicago : An Audience With The Queen album, Koko Taylor have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. This is one of the best cd’s i have heard through the whole thing.
The sound in I’d Rather Go Blind is really warm and Koko Taylor’s signature voice is still very much present. Come To Mama is the most memorable and astounding. I Cried Like A Baby is a striking and quite long song. Find A Fool, Bump Her Head stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. Music and lyrics of The Devil’s Gonna Have A Field Day creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. Going Back To Luka - For me, this is the best of the album. I’m A Woman actually sounds so joyous, that you can practically see a smile on Koko Taylor’s face. Let Me Love You is nothing but pure genius. Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with Wang Dang Doodle.
