L7’s debut, ‘Smell the Magic’, does not fit easily into one genre. I am not a real Indie music type of person, but i have to admit ‘Smell the Magic’ really is amazing. This disc has all of the essential L7 classics. Smell the Magic touched my soul like nothing else.
Fast And Frightening have really caught my ear and imagination. (Right On) Thru is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle. Such hits like Deathwish will leave you hooked. I believe ’till The Wheels Fall Off is one of the most astounding, heartfelt songs ever written. If you are a L7 fan, you will love Broomstick. Packin’ A Rod is simply perfect. Just Like Me is absolutely incredible. This track is full of harmonies and gets Smell the Magic off to a relaxing start. This track is a fabulous selection of easy listening, suitable for any age, taste or occasion. Connection [bonus] is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything L7 released so far. L7 allows each song to breathe and flourish. Suzy is a Headbanger [bonus] is a very catchy tune. This Ain’t the Summer of Love [bonus] stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. Three Days [bonus] is a great song for a cosy night in when it’s cold and wintry outside. Excellent vocals and musical performances.
