eight years ago, Larry Carlton briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “All In Good Time”. I am not a real Jazz: Contemporary Jazz music type of person, but i have to admit ‘On Solid Ground’ really is amazing. Self-described as Jazz: Contemporary Jazz with lots of words, Larry Carlton comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. This is one of the best cd’s i have heard through the whole thing.
This track is just fantastic from start to finish. The Philosopher is probably the most interesting track on On Solid Ground. Layla is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Larry Carlton released so far. This song stands out greatly from the others. The Waffer is beautiful, yet underrated track. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. Chapter II - A strong beat. Honey Samba - Okay, I just talked about depth. Don’t judge Sea Space on the first listening.
