This disc has all of the essential Linton Kwesi Johnson classics. After debuting at No. 1 last week, Linton Kwesi Johnson’s album In Concert with the Dub Band falls to No. 2 with 489,000, a sales slide of 93%. After seeing Five Nights of Bleeding, I had to have a good Linton Kwesi Johnson cd. Exciting stuff.
I’ve found myself listening to Dread Beat An Blood back to back and back many times. Intro - a classic song. All Wi Doin Is Defendin - is a breath or fresh air compared to many previous songs of Linton Kwesi Johnson. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of Linton Kwesi Johnson. Man Free is Linton Kwesi Johnson’s best work in years. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. Linton Kwesi Johnson allows each song to breathe and flourish. In Forces Of Victory full palet of sound is used by Linton Kwesi Johnson to accentuate the presentation. Once Independent Intavenshan gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. Reggae Fi Peach is the more seemingly obscure song on In Concert with the Dub Band that bear up best to repeated listening. I hope to keep hearing Linton Kwesi Johnson works for a long time to come. I loved New Craas Massahkah the first time I heard it. This is one of those songs that musicians strive to write and create. Wat About Di Workin Claas pretty much defines how I feel spiritually. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. Making History is absolutely incredible.
