This is the first studio album from Little Walter since bad diagnosis in 1986. ‘Boss Blues Harmonica’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. Since completing 1986’s ‘My Babe’, Little Walter fulfilled their contract with Mute Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Another great offering from Little Walter.
Sad Hours is a medium tempo tune. Music of You’re So Fine is gentle, never overbearing. It took me a little time but I ended up loving Last Night. Blues With A Feeling - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. Can’t Hold Out Much Longer - I just love it. Juke is a perfect, simple song by Little Walter at the top of his game. Lyrics of Mean Old World are precise and evocative. Off The Wall is the song that really did it for me. You Bettter Watch Yourself is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. I believe Blue Lights is one of the most gorgeous, heartfelt songs ever written. Voice of Little Walter in Tell Me Mama is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant. Too Late is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle. Thunderbird - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. I now have I Got To Go as one of my personal favorites. Boss Blues Harmonica couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track Boom, Boom Out Goes The Lights. Flying Saucer make listening to Little Walter like being in some sort of time warp. After about the third It’s Too Late Brother listen through, I began to believe this song is Little Walter’s essence.
