Lead single “In Praise Of Christmas” and “The Seasons” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Self-described as Celtic with lots of words, Loreena McKennitt comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. Since completing 1987’s ‘In Praise Of Christmas’, Loreena McKennitt fulfilled their contract with Savoy Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Loreena McKennitt “To Drive The Cold Winter Away” is an amazing album.
It’s such an underrated song. The King have really caught my ear and imagination. Banquet Hall is an underrated song: I like its lyrics and melody a lot. Snow is the album’s biggest hit, I think. From the moment you listen to Balulalow you’re hooked. The sound of Let Us The Infant Greet is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with The Wexford Carol. The song The Stockford Carol ending is my favorite… so catchy! Although Let All That Are To Mirth is very melodic it is far from sad.
