‘Songs My Children Taught Me’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. For older fans Songs My Children Taught Me will put a massive smile accross your face. Self-described as Instrumental with lots of words, Mark Isham comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. Unappreciated gift to Instrumental
Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. This is one of those tracks that should not be judged after the first hearing. Entering The Kingdom Of Nature makes a person feel excellent. Journey Through The Poem Of A Tempestuous Sea hits the heart. From the moment you listen to Love’s Ash Dissolves you’re hooked. A Spangled Heart - Belonging To All Time And Earth is a striking and quite long song. In China, You Know, The Emperor Is Chinese is, without a doubt, my favorite song, ever. It’s a great pleasure to listen to Travellers From Foreign Lands from the beginning to the end. Best song on the album, love it. A great put together song. High Imperial Bedsidetablesinger (Firstclass On The Left) is a very good song maybe surprisingly better than you at first might’ve imagined. Mark Isham breathes new life into the music in Awaiting The Angel Of Death. I believe A Visitation is one of the most amazing, heartfelt songs ever written. Music of The Nightingale Returns is gentle, never overbearing. Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. I like Thumbelina because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. This song has very few things relative to that of it’s predecessor. It’s so catchy, it’s amazing. In The Forest Of Life (1:13) a good melody. Vocals of Mark Isham in Invitation From A Field Mouse really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. Listening to Mr. Mole - Of The Grey Coat you can hear that Mark Isham has still amazing chemistry with band members. This track is clearly meant to showcase Mark Isham’s vocal abilities. The Landscape Of Summer Comes To An End - a classic song. The Swallow’s Song the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe. Home To The Sunny Countries is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. Mark Isham has astounded me with this amazing track. An Imperial Praeludium had me crying as I was able to relate so well. This track is a fabulous selection of easy listening, suitable for any age, taste or occasion. Quatracinium (Opus 87) - This one makes me want to not only sing along. A Faithful Old Minister is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Mark Isham released so far. Only one song from Songs My Children Taught Me named A Complicated Fish Motif (Woven) really got me. Opening track Fanfare For The Imperial Portrait shows the best of Mark Isham. Voice and instruments in A Trusted Official complement each other. If you are a Mark Isham fan, you will love The Emperor’s Dream. An Imperial Inspection still maintains something of a specific flourish. The Weaver’s Nocturne is the album’s biggest hit, I think. This song stands out greatly from the others. The Emperor’s Procession - An Imperial Postludium is flawed, nonetheless pretty good song.
