For older fans Africa will put a massive smile accross your face. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Miriam Makeba energies, virtually a rebirth. There is no doubt that Miriam Makeba has talent. This album is a scorcher!
Nomeva is astounding. Within the first few notes of Olilili it’s perfectly clear that Miriam Makeba is living this song. Suliram is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. The Retreat Song is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle. The Click Song - Check out that bassline! Music in Saduva is excellent as in all tracks of Africa. Iya Guduza - This one makes me want to not only sing along. Excellent vocals and musical performances. There is cool mix of music in Umhome. Lyrics of Amampondo are precise and evocative. Dubula motivates you to get up and do something to improve your life and the life of others. Kwedini is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. Umhome is absolutely incredible. Pole Mze is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. Le Fleuve is probably one of Miriam Makeba’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. This track is a fabulous selection of easy listening, suitable for any age, taste or occasion. In Mayibuye the music gets its power. Maduna has a fun tempo. It’s so catchy, it’s amazing. Kwazulu (In The Land Of The Zu…) good vocals. Nongqongqo (To Those We Love) - a classic song. As always, Miriam Makeba’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. Ndodemnyama (Beware, Verwoerd!…) is the most memorable and excellent.
