It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Paul Mauriat energies, virtually a rebirth. There were many famous songs of Paul Mauriat available. eleven years ago, Paul Mauriat briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Manha Do Carnaval”. Paul Mauriat “Gold Concert” is an amazing album.
Paul Mauriat breathes new life into the music in Manha Do Carnaval. Excellent vocals and musical performances. Some of the arrangements found on Gold Concert are surprisingly edgy. This track is just a stunning masterpiece. Nice and different song. Malaguena - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Reverie because the melody in the chorus is so good. Western Fingers is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. When I listen to Recuerdos de la Alhambra in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. Love is Blue, El Bimbo, Bows is probably one of Paul Mauriat’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. Penelope hits the heart. Music and lyrics of Licha, El Bimbo creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming.
