While no new Steve Morse album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1991 tour in Europe. Southern Steel isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. It has been twelve years Steve Morse’ last studio CD, “Southern Steel” which won Array Grammy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. This is one of the best cd’s i have heard through the whole thing.
It’s also one of those rare songs that touchingly comfort the listener. Vista Grande is an underrated song: I like its lyrics and melody a lot. Opening track Sleaze Factor shows the best of Steve Morse. Battle Lines is, without a doubt, my favorite song, ever. Some call Southern Steel from Southern Steel as a quiet invitation of an artist to sit and listen. Wolf Song is a strong cut, one of many. I came to like Weekend Overdrive. Arena Rock is perfect. This track is possibly the biggest guilty pleasure on Southern Steel.
