Lead single “Interplanetary Music” and “Eve” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. We Travel the Spaceways/Bad and Beautiful isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. ten years ago, Sun Ra briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Eve”. We Travel the Spaceways/Bad and Beautiful is preety good and all the songs have a good meaning behind them.
Eve - This is a very lively song. The sound in We Travel The Spaceways is really warm and Sun Ra’s signature voice is still very much present. Tapestry From An Asteroid is a medium tempo tune. All of songs on We Travel the Spaceways/Bad and Beautiful and have something to say letting alone Space Loneliness. Music and lyrics of New Horizons creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. I love the melodic melody of Velvet and to this day it makes me feel good. The Bad And The Beautiful is simple, dignified and effective, Sun Ra refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Blew our minds when we first heard Ankh. I’ve found myself listening to Just In Time back to back and back many times. Search Light Blues hits the heart. Exotic Two marked the continuation of Sun Ra in style evolution. On The Blue Side gives good insight into the truths. And This Is My Beloved - a classic song.
