The Crusaders’s debut, ‘Royal Jam’, does not fit easily into one genre. Since completing 1990’s ‘Overture (I’m So Glad I’m Standing Here Today)’, The Crusaders fulfilled their contract with Blue Note Records and where under no obligation to release another album. On Royal Jam album, The Crusaders have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. To me The Crusaders is the best band ever.
It’s so catchy, it’s amazing. Fly with Wings of Love is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. This is one of those tracks that should not be judged after the first hearing. Last Call catches attention immediately, Thrill Is Gone one of the most beautiful songs i’ve ever heard. Charming song, great melody. The beautiful sound of this track makes you want to close your eyes and sway away with the music. Street Life - To me, this is the best song on the Royal Jam. One of the more genuine-sounding songs is I Just Can’t Leave Your Love Alone. Never Make a Move Too Soon (4:18) - awsome.
