On May I Sing with Me album, Yo La Tengo have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. May I Sing with Me is an amazing album, racked with beauty. This disc has all of the essential Yo La Tengo classics. Yo La Tengo is one of my favourite bands of all time.
The first time I listened to Upside-Down I was struck by its cool sound. |titile| is a sure sign of something most of us are experiencing, maturity. The opening track Swing for Life is very much like you would expect from other albums. In Five-Cornered Drone (Crispy Duck) it becomes nowhere more obvious that Yo La Tengo has yet to define own style. Some Kinda Fatigue has a fun tempo. Always Something - To me, this is the best song on the May I Sing with Me. 86-Second Blowout is the more seemingly obscure song on May I Sing with Me that bear up best to repeated listening. In Out the Window the light shines equally on lyrics, vocals and instrumentation. Yo La Tengo has created something that grabs you by the heart and gets you moving. I find myself hearing bits of Satellite here and there throughout my waking hours.
